"My greatest satisfaction comes from seeing a teary-eyed smile on my patients face and recognizing the end result of how cosmetic dentistry can change lives," says Dell Ariel Goodrick, DDS, FAGD, of his work as a cosmetic dentist in Santa Clarita and of his work on behalf of the Give Back a Smile charity.
As a local dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry, Goodrick is helping to raise awareness about the Give Back a Smile program.
"It's important to have an avenue for helping to restore a person's life that has been bruised and shattered. Bruises fade, but broken teeth don't."
Established in 1999 by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) out of a desire to give something back to the community, Give Back a Smile was designed specifically, to help victims of domestic violence.
Valencia Dentist, Dr. Dell Goodrick became involved with the program in 2004 and worked in conjunction with plastic surgeons to help a local victim gain back her dignity.
"If a person has been physically beaten, their self-esteem plunges," notes Goodrick. "In the field of cosmetic dentistry we can apply our talents to help restore their smile, thus their self esteem and sense of self worth. The results are very gratifying and worthwhile." Because of his participation in the GBAS program, Dr. Goodrick was invited to a special meet and greet benefit concert given by Dolly Parton in Nashville in 2005.
An expert in his field, Goodrick recently received the Fellowship Award in 2006 from the Academy of General Dentistry, the second largest dental organization in the world.
"It's a great honor and a milestone in my career," says Goodrick who has earned more than 500 hours of continuing education in multiple disciplines of general and cosmetic dentistry, which includes an intense seven-hour written test.
For his work in the field of cosmetic dentistry, Goodrick was awarded a silver medal for the smile design of one of his patients in the international smile gallery competition, which was open to the best cosmetic dentists in the world at the AACD's 2005 annual conference. Britesmile (the in office whitening company) featured Goodrick, who is one of only 43 cosmetic dentists recognized by the AACD to have completed an Extreme Makeover (here with Extreme Makeover Santa Clarita), nationally as a top teeth-whitening center.
Staying on the cutting edge Goodrick offers his patients a wide variety of services, a periodontal specialist for gum surgery and implants, and has recently partnered with a registered nurse who can perform Botox and Restylane procedures on patients for a one-stop dental spa.
"It's a multifaceted approach," says Goodrick who sees the integration of related professionals as a modern approach to providing services to his patients.
With a passion for his work, Goodrick began his career the same year he graduated from the University of the Pacific's School of Dentistry in San Francisco in 1989.
In 1995 Goodrick created a Unique Dental Experience®, a natural redwood forest stream setting for the comfort and care of his patients.
"This healing environment was one of only two dental offices in North America," explains Goodrick, "to be featured in the inaugural issue of Health Care Design Magazine in 2001. Goodrick is a member of multiple organizations including: the American Dental Association and the California Dental Association, as well as the San Fernando Valley Dental Society (having been a member of each his entire professional career), the Academy of Laser Dentistry, and the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation.
Born in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Goodrick is the proud great-grandson of one of the first pioneer settlers of the picturesque mountain valley. An active father of two teenagers, Beau and Blaire, Goodrick enjoys early morning fitness Bootcamp and his involvement in the community and is affectionately known as Dr. Dell to his patients.
Goodrick arrived in the SCV, joining his grandparents, in 1989. His grandmother, Helen Weigel, was a long time Rosedell Elementary School teacher, teaching many Santa Clarita children to read. After an interview with Club Med to be a scuba instructor, Dr. Dell started working with his mentor and friend, orthodontist Alan Barbakow. In the early seventies, his family had settled in the Santa Barbara community of Carpinteria Goodrick graduated from Carpinteria High school with honors. He went on to attend the University of the Pacific, in Stockton, Ca, graduating with a B.A. in Biology in 1986.
With a vision, and enthusiasm that knows no bounds, Goodrick says he's looking forward to offering great service to his patients.
"I enjoy keeping up with all of the latest in dentistry and it's exciting to see the ways it benefits my patients and that's the best reward of all."
